What is a manufactured home?
|
Manufactured homes are efficiently built in a controlled, environmentally protected building center using precise technology. They are built to a federal code set by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development(HUD). It is the only federally-regulated national building code. Manufactured homes are not mobile homes. Mobile homes were produced prior to the 1976 HUD Code enactment.
The HUD code requires each manufactured home to meet the following requirements: ♦ Built indoors, transported to home site, and installed by certified installer. ♦ Meet high standards for construction, durability, strength, fire resistance, and energy efficiency. ♦ Pass stringent third party inspections.
When deciding between a manufactured or modular home, there are a few considerations. Manufactured homes include mechanicals and typically come in at a lower cost per square foot. Financing options for manufactured homes not only offer construction loans, but also offer home only loans.
